Dr. Gözde Arslan

I have a professional doctorate in Counselling Psychology from City University, London. I am a Chartered Psychologist accredited with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and an HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist. As an integrative practitioner, I understand that each person is unique and therefore one approach may not fit everyone. I am therefore trained to use a range of approaches, including, systemic, cognitive, behaviour, psychodynamic thinking, all within humanistic framework to help me find the most helpful way of working with you.

I have extensive knowledge and experience in National Health Service, having worked in various roles providing exceptional care and implementing effective person-centred treatment plans for children, adolescents, and adults. I worked with broad spectrum of different types of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem difficulties, anger management and long-term health conditions. I am currently working in national specialist CAMHS service. I provide comprehensive tailored therapeutic Autism, Attention Deficient hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Cognitive assessments, utilising gold standard tools, as recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines, and consider the needs of the whole family and network. I aim to ensure that my clients have the information, guidance and support they need.

My Approach

As an empathetic psychologist, I value the importance of the relationship and place this relationship at the heart of an effective therapeutic process and change. I will provide an honest non-judgemental stance where your feelings can be expressed and contained in safe and confidential setting. I strive to be transparent and treat you as an equal part of this therapeutic journey. I offer multicultural counselling, considering the impact of culture on how we experience our difficulties and promote anti-discriminatory practice, contributing to personal and social justice where everyone feels respected and valued. I feel privileged that you share your inner world with me, and I show an utmost respect to confidentiality, to your autonomy, your way of life and your choices.

With children, my approach is playful, creative, practical and solution focused; as a mother, I am very aware of how important the relationship is with the referred young person and I spend considerable time understanding issues from several different points of view. I am passionate about improving lives of young people and families experiencing difficulties. I believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and have this recognised.
